WPKN radio station is a very active, non-profit, community based radio station that broadcasts a wide and eclectic range of music, public affairs and news programs that engage the community and address a regional and worldwide audience. WPKN provides an exceptional professional working atmosphere for learning about and participating in all aspects of radio production with a library of over 70,000 CDs/records and a broadcast studio and production studio.
This opening is specifically for a Public Relations/Marketing/Communications Intern for the Summer, 2018 to work on all aspects of public relations and communications for Soundprint: Asia – the largest Asian music program in the USA. The Intern will work on a wide range of programs including direct video to various social media, daily social media updates, website updating, blogs, fundraising, and station activities. This position is for approximately 12 hours per week with the following responsibilities.
Public Relations/Marketing Communications Responsibilities:
- Research and develop a state-wide print and electronic media contact list
- Develop and implement a complete social media platform with daily communications
- Expand listener e-mail, print and social media contact list
- Develop and Prepare a bi-weekly Soundprint: Asia update distributed to our contact list
- Communicate with national radio networks and stations
Requirements
- Excellent organizational skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to take initiative, take responsibility, perform research, work independently
- Excellent social media skills across a number of platforms
- Experience with media campaigns is preferred but not required
- Experience with website updating and development, FB ads & boosts, etc.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects
- Experience with general administration preferred
This internship is available for the SUMMER 2018. The intern schedule will be arranged with the selected applicant and will require two days (8 hours per wk) at the station in Bridgeport, CT and one independent work day (approx. 4 hours) at applicants preferred location. A travel stipend may be provided but this is an unpaid internship.
